Press Release: Hires William Harris as ECLS Director

FORT MYERS, FL., June 1st, 2017  —, Inc has hired William Harris, CCP to lead it’s new Extracorpoeal Life Support (ECLS) division. The new division will focus on ECLS education and clinical support services for new and established ECLS and ECMO programs. The educational services offered under this program will include on site, hands on training as well as online education and high-fidelity simulation. The clinical aspect of the program will include “retained” and “on demand” ECMO coverage provided by ECMO-trained clinicians and certified clinical perfusionists.

Mr. William (Bill) Harris received his undergraduate degree at the Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio and his Perfusion Training at The Ohio State University School of Extracorporeal Technology in Columbus.  After graduation, he was accepted to a Fellowship position in Perfusion at the Emory University Hospital System in Atlanta.  Upon completion of the Fellowship, Mr. Harris was hired as a Staff Perfusionist by the Ochsner Medical System of New Orleans, Louisiana in 1984 and  continued clinical practice until March, 2015. While at Ochsner, Mr. Harris was involved in the initiation of many new programs at the Center including, the heart, liver, and lung transplant, ECMO/ECLS , and other programs utilizing his Perfusion skills.

Mr. Harris has been a member of the following professional organizations in various capacities:  American Society of Extracorporeal Technology (regional treasurer, ELSO Liaison, Ethics chairperson), the American Academy of Cardiovascular Perfusion (Secretary, Council, Awards committee),  Society of Cardiothoracic Critical Care (BOD, Frequent Speaker),  Extracorporeal Life Support Organization since inception 1989 (Past Chair; Device and Techniques committee, Past AmSECT/ Perfusion Liaison to the ELSO Steering committee for 14 years).

Mr. Harris has published in journals and several books while his emphasis has been in lecturing on numerous topics in Perfusion and ECLS/ECMO at national and international meetings since 1986.
